I came across the WikiNode concept for the first time today on the Open Guide to London. A WikiNode is a wiki page that briefly tells you what a wiki is about, and how it relates with its neighbours. Given that this concept seems pretty useful, I’ve added a WikiNode on my wiki which also ties it in with a few related useful wikis.
The WikiNode FAQ covers WikiNodes in some detail. For me the best and simplest part being: “WikiNode pages are intended to be walkable. That is, it should be easy to hop from WikiNode to WikiNode. Thus, pages should be brief, and WikiNodes should link to WikiNodes. We want to make it easy to explore the space.”
The devil is in the detail, and by making the whole system so elegantly simple they’ve kept evil out of this design.
