Nokia 3230
Is this the "great white hope" against the SonyEricsson K700 et al? A cheap, pocket-sized fully featured Series 60 phone. The Nokia 3230 appears at first sight to be rather interesting with tales of Symbian OS 8.0a, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and even Visual Radio, not unlike a pocket Charlie or Nokia 6680 except with an FM radio and GSM/GPRS/EDGE rather than W-CDMA.
There are however doubts about the actual phone's specification, with Symplification asking if it's not the phone everyone thought it was?
The Forum Nokia specification sheet shows that Symbian OS 8.0a is indeed absent, being replaced by a "mere" 7.0s, but the rest of the specification looks very competent. In summary the specification is not hugely dissimilar to that of the Nokia 7610, see the Symbian Wiki for a 3230 summary.
Users report that the phone feels slightly larger in the hand than first expected, "not unlike a slightly top heavy T610" is one report, it'll be interesting to see how it matches up in dimensions with the slightly chunky Sendo X, the Nokia 6681 or the tiny Sendo X2. The 3230 started appearing in European shops in March 2005, so it has a slight market lead over the Sendo X2 and the 6681 which are not shipping yet (as of mid April 2005).
Russ was excited by the 3230, bought one, and fell out of love very quickly.
There are other Specific Phones featuring the S60 OS.
